Field Target Match
May 18, 2002
It was another surprising day for our first Field Target Match of 2002. The
weather was most cooperative with milder-than-expected temperatures and some
bright sunny skies. However, there were some of those "whirly wind gods"
on many of the longer lanes in our wooded course and the scores reflected
these "blowing-devils". The turnout from our membership was very
strong with a surprising 5 new shooters attending their first FT match. We're
still a young club and we are making extended efforts to recruit new members.
So for this particular match, we laid out a double course on the same set
of lanes. That is, each of the 12 lanes had 3 targets, two of the greater
difficulty targets designated for the experienced shooters and the two of
lesser difficulty, designated for the five new shooters. The course was still
a little "green" but should be up to snuff in the next couple of
weeks and hopefully we'll hold down the number of cold lines. The target layout
was a little different from our past, with quite a few more targets up in
trees.
Each of the courses was 48 shots, with a Troyer Difficulty rating of 40.1
for the experienced course and 28.8 for the novice course. Targets ranged
from 13 - 54 yards. Kill zones ranged from 1/2" to 1-1/2" with majority
being in the 1" range. We had 1 off-hand and one kneeling shot for the
experienced while the novices shot all theirs from the sitting position.
The scores were spread out quite a bit, which reflects the courses mysterious winds and the shooters first match jitters. Everyone shot in the open class, except for one, who was "relegated" to the only available extra gun remaining, which was a nice TX-200. And it was shot be a new shooter to a very respectful score. The match took much longer than anticipated as each of the new shooters was partnered with an experienced shooter and therefore lessons and information transfer were of top priority. Time limits were suspended for this match.
Awards were presented
at the conclusion of the event and some corrections made shortly thereafter.
The top three positions in the experienced match received placement Award
Certificates while all the new shooters were presented with First Match certificates.
Once again refreshments were provided for the post match gathering. Thanks
again to all the members for their help and again, congratulations to all
winners. Come join us for the next match on June 15, 2002.
