BAGA - Badgerland AirGun Association
Field Target Match
June 16, 2001

It was nice of Mother Nature to stop the torrential rains early in the week and to bring the sun out to let it dry out for the match.  Even the Wisconsin State bird, the mosquito, didn’t have quit enough time to hatch in major droves and so we were not inundated with too many bites.  We had a great turnout from our membership and even support from our neighboring states. The course was altered slightly with some new targets and it scored just under 38 on the Troyer Scale. This was a 48 shot match spread out on the first 12 of our 25 lanes.  We have re-designed our entire course to allow us to diversify for each of our monthly matches. Next months match will take place on lanes 13 through 25 and we will be culminating with the Badgerland Regional as a 100 shot match on all the lanes. The Badgerland is scheduled for September 8, 2001.

Today’s match scores, well represent the diversity of our shooters and the new course layout. Big congratulations to Bill Slater for his fantastic win. Bill has been a mainstay of airgunning in the state of Wisconsin and has been a tremendous supporter of our club. He is also the person that got me started in FT, so I am really proud of his win.  Second and third place in the open class had to be determined by a shoot-off, with Allen just edging out Don on the 45 yard ½” pheasant. The spring piston shooters continue to plug away and learning the intricacies of the sport. Both Ron and Brandon are new to FT and are trying to evolve their shooting techniques for this sport. Seems the metal targets are a little less forgiving then their normal hunting quarry. Congrats to Brandon for another First Place win. We also had our first lady shooter and on top of it, it was her first time shooting an air rifle. Kathleen has shot airguns previously, but only pistols. She and Brian were given the use of a ZM Steyr LG100 and both had only warm-up minutes to learn the gun and its shooting style. We look forward to her return and Brian looks forward to another chance as well. And special thanks to Phil Herman, who drove all the way from Michigan in the wee hours of the early morning. The long ride probably didn’t do much to help him aim but I think he did enjoy the course.

Awards were presented at the conclusion of the event and as usual we enjoyed snacks and drink s provided by the club’s members. In addition to these awards, each participant was entered in a random raffle for prizes that were donated by club members. This raffle has become a regular staple at our FT matches and is open to all the players.  So even if you feel you didn’t have a chance to place that day, you can still come and win a prize.  After the match and awards, we also shot an IFP match. It’s a good way to practice for FT and also a good way to cool down from the match. Vlad was able shoot a new high score for the year and put himself on top of the IFP heap and into the 40-pin club.

Thanks again to all the members for their donations. Again, congratulations to all winners.
